My biggest challenge has always been breakfast. I am not an "egg person" and struggle to find healthy, lowfat, but filling breakfast items. Something that I have found in the past week that has really helped is FRUIT AND NUT OATMEAL.

I prepare 1/2 c. of old-fashioned oats, chop up 1/2 a small apple, add a heaping Tbl. of chopped walnuts and sprinkle a little cinnamon. No butter or brown sugar needed! I find that this keeps my blood sugar stablized well into the morning, even allowing me to not need a mid-morning snack.

Please share any good breakfast ideas that have worked for you!

Maybe I can give some ideas for breakfast. I stopped buying boxed cerial several years ago. My kids got tired of oatmeal so I've been trying different kinds of smoothies. They are just fruit smoothies no sugar added. The kids will have a bagel and yogurt along with the smoothie.

Stawberry Suprise

1 can peaches (in pear juice only)
1 pint strawberries
1 apple
1 orange
1 banana

Mix all in a blender. Makes about 6 cups. This is great for a big family. I have a few more recipes.

Heres one for getting over a sickness:

Orange smoothie

1 can peaches (in pear juice only)
1 cup strawberries
3 oranges
1 cup blueberries

Mix in blender. Serves six

Purple Durple

1 cup Blueberries
1 cup Strawberries
1 banana
1 orange
1 pear
1 apple
1 plum
1/2 cup milk or whatever liquid you like

Mix in blender. Serves 6.

You can add yogurt to the smoothies if you like. They are great with just the fruit though and you can get your 5 servings of fruits a day easier by doing smootheis. I'm going to be experimenting with carrots, apples and broccolli, but I think I need a stronger blender. Hope this gives you ideas to a healthy lifesyle! Guenavere

With Fall here, now is a great time to be eating apples..you know...an apple a day...keeps the fat away...Don't like apples...dip them in 2 tbsps of fat free carmel and have a yummy treat...your kids will love it too!
